Surface Build

Setting up a new Surface

1. Plug in surface and then turn it on
2. Run through all of the prompts that are given and make a temporary user account
   1. Username: User
   2. Password: jnf
   3. Once you are through all of the prompts and logged into the machine enable local administrator
      1. Right click start menu
      2. Click computer management
      3. Click users and groups
      4. Right click administrator
      5. Set password
         1. Password: 5166786805
3. Right click administrator
4. Properties
5. Uncheck account is disabled
6. Click apply
7. Click ok
8. Then log into the local administrator
9. Press windows button and r at the same time on keyboard
10. In the run dialogue box type
    1. \\jnfusers\install
    2. You will be prompted to in put your log in information
    3. Copy and paste the _microsoftsurfacebuild folder onto the desktop of the Local Administrator
    4. Go into that folder and install all of the programs that should be put on the computer
       1. Adobe Reader
          1. You will have to download from the adobe site.

14. Google Chrome

16. VLC Player
17. VNC
18. Windows Classic Shell
19. Right Click the desktop and click personalize
    1. Go to Lock Screen
       1. Battery – 45
       2. Plugged in—Never
20.  Go to Sleep
    1. Battery – 45
    2. Plugged in—Never
21. Additional Power settings
    1. Turn up brightness all the way
    2. Click Choose closing lid
       1. Do Nothing
22. Themes
    1. Desktop Icon
    2. Computer
    3. Press ok
    4. Run updates
       1. Right click desktop
       2. Click personalize
       3. Click home
       4. Click updates and security
       5. Run update
       6. (you may have to run this multiple times before there are no updates left.)
